What's Inside

ParaPathways Exam: An Overview

Question bank, sample questions, and a pool of practice test questions.

ParaPathways: Test 5757, is ETS's assessment designed for professional and aspiring paraeducators who support classroom activities. The exam is taken by people who are just entering the field or those who need to meet their state's requirement. The ParaPathways replaces the old version — the ParaPro assessment — which will be retired in 2026.

The ParaPathways assessment consists of two subtests: Reading and Writing, and Mathematics. The full test contains 87 selected-response questions, and the exam should be completed in 150 minutes. Each subtest is reported on a scaled score ranging from 310–350. ETS recommends 332 for Reading/Writing and 334 for Mathematics, though passing scores vary from one state to another.

Our question bank contains 522 original practice questions across 6 full-length exams, all matching the official structure. There are 51 questions in the Reading/Writing section and 36 questions in the Mathematics section, with worked explanations for every question. Since the ParaPathways assessment is divided into 2 separate subtests, it is recommended to use our practice exams under timed conditions and score each part separately. Spot your weak areas and work on them before attempting a second practice test. The sample questions below will give you an idea about the format and explanations you will get throughout.

ParaPathways Sample Questions

Here is a brief overview how exam questions are structured.

Multiple Choice QuestionQuestion 1 of 3

A student investigates whether fine-mesh lids reduce insect visits to outdoor food-scrap bins. Which recent source should a paraeducator recommend as the most relevant to that claim?

  1. ANewly published by insect ecologists, a field study compares insect counts at identical food-scrap bins fitted with solid, mesh, or open lids.
  2. Bcurrent sanitation manual by waste-management specialists explains how emptying schedules can control odors from food-scrap bins
  3. CIn this year's materials report, textile engineers compare how several mesh fabrics withstand sunlight and rain.
  4. DA recent review by public-health researchers summarizes safe temperatures for storing food before disposal.
Reveal answer & rationale
Correct answer

A

Rationale

Relevance is decisive here. A directly compares lid types on food-scrap bins and counts insect visits, matching both variables in the claim. B addresses emptying schedules and odor, C tests mesh durability without studying insects or bins, and D concerns food-storage temperatures before disposal. Each rejected source may be credible, but none supplies evidence about whether a mesh lid changes insect activity.

Frequently Asked Questions

How hard is the ParaPathways assessment?

This assessment tests basic reading, writing, and math skills, not advanced or specialized ones. Candidates who have been out of school for a long time might find the Mathematics section somewhat hard.

What are the differences between ParaPathways and ParaPro assessments?

ParaPathways (5757) is the new ETS assessment replacing the ParaPro Assessment, which will be retired in 2026. The fundamental change is the structure: ParaPro was a single test, while ParaPathways is divided into 2 subtests, Reading/Writing and Mathematics.

What is the ParaPathways test?

It is an assessment developed by ETS. It measures whether a paraeducator has the reading, writing, and math skills needed to support classroom activities.

How do I pass the ParaPathways assessment?

The most effective approach is to practice through timed exams, as this provides an exam-style environment. Practice questions alongside review of the underlying skills are the best way to prepare for the assessment.

Where can I find practice tests for the Paraeducator (ETS ParaPathways) exam?

ETS offers a free study companion for ParaPathways, where candidates can access a number of free questions. Exam-Banks.com offers 522 original practice questions making up 6 full-length mock exams, with detailed answers. Other independent providers offer practice questions too. When comparing options, check whether the questions are accompanied by rationales rather than just an answer key.
